Behind the Scene of Classroom Journals

Home / Blog / Behind the Scene of Classroom Journals

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share with you something that I am working on, an online design school, that teaches Graphic Design and Design Thinking virtually. The idea started back in 2018 when I was going through one of the toughest seasons in my life. I didn’t have a job and I had no direction of where my life was. It was at a time that I was shutting down a business I started with a friend of mine, a design studio, after running it for two years.

I was really frustrated with my life and was sinking into depression, luckily during my devotion time with God, God gave me an idea of using my skills, i.e., design skills as a teacher. I took a book and started writing down the plan and how to start a school as a business. Fear and self-doubt were one of my strongest enemies that I had to conquer, for I battled them for about 5 – 6 months up to where I was okay with the idea of me being a teacher, for it was not something I ever saw myself as while growing up.

I got a job in 2019 at an NGO to teach graphic design, it’s where I learned the basics of starting a school, creating lessons, and even gaining the confidence of being a teacher and teaching. After my time ended there, I started to think about the idea I had of launching a school, It was in the time of covid 19 pandemic when everything was being shut down, many people were forced to go remote working and learning, and there is where I connected the dots of launching an Online Design School known as Classroom Journals. The idea behind the name was an expression of bringing the “class to life” because a journal is something that one records his life.

What I wanted to do with the online school was to solve some of the problems that have made people seeking to learn design not to be able to. Problems like:

  • High cost of learning design
  • Difficulty in Access to Design materials offline & online
  • Part-time classes
  • Difficulty in accessing Mentorship & Community
  • Difficulty in securing jobs after school
  • Lack of business aspect in the courses

My solution to the above challenges is to create:

  • Affordable design course & scholarship
  • Online community & mentorship support
  • Jobs Board for students to find work
  • Design Thinking – Course & Workshops (For designers and non-designers)
  • Podcast shows on different topics
  • Student Story/ work showcase on our platforms

Our ideal target audience is:

  • Target Age: 18yrs – 45 years
  • Individuals seeking to switch careers to design.
  • Individuals seeking to learn design or upskill.

Our Online Graphic Design Course is starting on May 9th, 2022, anyone interested or knows an interested person may reach out:
