Course overview
This course is designed for the ones who are complete beginners in graphic design and also for the ones who need or want to do a refresher on graphic design. You will gain a solid understanding of design theory and principals, learn how to build and craft your ideas intentionally, communicate deliberately and become better while navigating ambiguity, that is facing the discomfort of the unknown with confidence. In addition, you will graduate with an incredible design portfolio essential for any creative career and master how to discuss and sell your work.

KES 45,000 to study for three months period part time.




What we shall cover in the course:
01 Design theory:
Great design is not about making things look pretty but creating a solution by what you are designing. We will learn about the principles of design (Balance, Hierarchy, Contrast, Repetition, Alignment) Design fundamentals like typography and typesetting, Grids, and color theory.
02 Design Thinking
It’s a powerful process used across many industries, for it provides methods and mindsets that we can apply, it increases our confidence in our creative abilities and empowers us to create relevant and innovative solutions that meet user needs. That is, from creating digital products to developing business or marketing strategies.
03 Business of Design
Get to learn that in the creative field, that it’s not always that good work sells itself, but you have to put in the extra work of becoming better on how to negotiate price, see the value in your work and learn the processes of how to sell your work.
04 Design Programs
To learn design, you will need the right tools for it, as there are many out there today, we choose to narrow it down to industry-standard software, that is Adobe software’s (Illustrator, Photoshop) and Figma.
– Adobe illustrator:
The Leading vector design program enables designers to create a wide range of artworks including corporate logos, complex illustrations, and maps, etc. These artworks can be scaled to any size and maintain their sharpness.
– Adobe Photoshop
It’s extraordinary. An image editing, photo-retouching, and composition program that offers all the tools needed for professional photo manipulation. Photoshop is only limited by your imagination.
– Figma
It’s one of the industry-leading digital design applications (UI and UX Design) it combines vector and prototyping tools. It’s a great application for real-time collaboration among teams for every stage of the design process.
